I use ACME as an “alias” for the companies I work with. You’ll see the name pop up every time I share a case study.
Why not call companies by their real name instead?
Most ventures don’t prefer to be public about their pivotal situations.
However I do believe there’s a lot to learn from real cases.
So, with permission I anonymize the companies I work with when sharing results.
I name them: ACME 1, ACME 2, ACME n.
But why ACME?
Well, back in the day, I remember seeing this abbreviation often in comic strips to name any kind of company.
Turns out, ACME stands for a couple of (funny) meanings.
I found 10 explanations on the internet. Which one do you like most?
(Hint: I stick to number 3)
1. A Completely Made-up Enterprise
2. A Company Making Everything
3. Any Credible Manufacturing Enterprise
4. Automated Chaos Management Engine
5. Artificially Created Marketing Euphoria
6. Always Crashing, Maybe Exploding
7. A Completely Meaningless Enterprise
8. Arbitrarily Created Mega Empire
9. Anti-Comfort Mattress Enterprise
10. A Comically Misguided Experiment
P.S. If you’re curious how other ‘ACMEs’ (tech startups) navigated their low growth phases, take a look at my past case studies.
